About Brendan

Now that we've shown some pictures of him, I figured it was time to tell everyone about his personality a bit. Well, you already know that either he's impatient or likes to do things fast and in his own way since he came out in only 3 hours! That seems to have translated into things like
"I'm crying because I want to be fed now!" or "I don't care if it's midnight, I don't want to sleep right now." He is a very alert baby. He looks around all the time. He makes the cutest faces too. One time when my Dad was holding him he got this frown on his face and just stared at him like that for the longest time. Every once in a while Brendan will make a face that looks like he's saying "ooh!" with eyes opened really wide. He also yawns, sneezes, and hiccups. He's definitely a boy (and Brent says definitely my son) cause he's given us some very loud burps!

So now for stat updates. He was 7 lbs 1 oz and 20.5 inches in the hospital. His first doctor's visit (June 23rd) he was 6 lbs 9 oz and 19 inches. You read that correctly... either the hospital was too busy to measure correctly or our son shrunk in a few days time. Actually I heard a similar scenario from a lady at church except that her granddaughter gained 3 inches in the same amount of time, lol. So then this week's visit he was 7 lbs 3 oz and 19.25 inches. He also had to get his first prescription cause he has Conjuctivitis. The only thing we can figure is that he got it from the restaurant we went to last Friday night. But he has his gel and his eye looks much better.

Brendan made his first church appearance last night. There was a wedding shower for the wife-to-be of a guy who grew up in our church. I didn't bring Brendan with me and I didn't have any pictures with me either and all the ladies were very upset with me. So I had Brent drop him off on his way home from his parents house. Everyone loved him, of course. I've been nervous to bring him for a service cause of all the germs he'll come in contact with. The doctor made me nervous about that at the first appointment because of the Group B Strep stuff. The doc said if Brendan runs a fever they'll probably send him to the hospital because of it. So as hard as it's been, I'm trying to limit exposure.

That being said, we're taking Brendan to his first 4th of July parade tomorrow! I'm so excited. We bought some baby sunscreen at Walmart the other day. We told my Mom about it and I said, it's even a spray and it's tear free. She immediately said, "Don't spray it in his face!". I rolled my eyes and said, "Like I would do that!".

We have been having lots of fun with Prince Brendan (Prince is what his name means in Welsh) in between our sometimes rough nights. He is too adorable. I'll try to log on later tonight to add more pictures!

Yay! He sounds DELICIOUS!!! :-) I don't know what you mean about "the group b strep stuff" because I also was GBS+ and all they did was give us antibiotics in the hospital... there weren't any extra warnings about germs or anything. Weird! Its still a good idea to limit exposure. Be very glad you had a June baby not a december baby... there are FAR fewer germs this time of year!!!! Anyway, keep up the good work, mommy! (and daddy!) Can't wait to see more pictures!

Oh man, Susan commented first! ;)

Regarding the strep B, I'm guessing that they DIDN'T give him antibiotics, and they're hoping to avoid it. Just my guess.

Still, work that Purell bottle! You've seen that they make little ones to hang on the stroller, right?

As for sunscreen, we used Oil of Olay on SR, but perhaps you need something slightly more manly for His Highness... (hey, more royalty in the family!! SR's name - the Sarah anyway - translates to 'Princess'!! Hey, we didn't even do that on purpose!!!).

He sounds perfect and wonderful
